I keep coming back to this thread expecting to see a very different result, but it's still 0-3.

Be easier for the Russians to lose a flagship than for this to sink in.

Still a couple of hundred down here and there is something special about a Friday in the sun, all on the lash, giving it MASSiVE after one of the best performances in 45 years.

And every West Ham fan so far has been a great ambassador for the club..

After being starved of this for so long I want it to continue....

Thought it was quiet funny both the defenders stayed with Souček and left Dawson.
Then after Dawson scored you could see them both looking at each other thinking well I had my man ..

Diop seemed to come out with a bit of attitude and swagger last night. Don’t know if that’s him trying to gee himself up, or a sign of a more confident player, but if him and Dawson can forge a decent partnership for the rest of the season, that would be very fucking welcome. Both him and Johnson noticeably grew in confidence as the game progressed.

Not sure if i remembered it correctly but pretty sure the VAR check for Dawson’s opener was for a possible hand ball which was obviously never the case.

Dawson has almost become like our modern day James Collins, cult like figure who is generally underrated but a colossus on his day which this season has been more often than not.

Just watched a replay, and the only thing I could see was a slight coming together between Tommy and one of their defenders as the corner came in. Their chap ended up on his arse, and was nowhere near Dawson at the near post. As I assume the VAR was to see if the coming together stopped the Lyon player having a chance so stopping Dawson getting a head to the cross.
No chance it was going to be chalked off, as it wasn't Bletchley Park, and we were Not playing Liverpool.

Was our first goal really given a VAR check?

I've got this slight recollection of the commentator mentioning it with a tone of disbelief and almost condescending approval when the goal was deemed to stand.

If I'm not dreaming this, did anyone see anything in that first goal that could have been deemed an offence?

If not, then why a VAR check at all?

I am not sure in my life time that there is another West Ham team that could beat the current team over 2 legs.

Certianly there are teams that were decent on their day but we have historically always been inconsistant. A team that can beat Man Utd away one week and then lose at home to a minnow the next.

I know the Brentford game reaks of the old West Ham but at least you can understand to some degree why that game didn't go our way.

They thing is we should of beaten them anyway.
Man for man we have the better team they have a couple of great individuals.
But you wouldn't swap Bowen or Rice for any of them.
Dembele or Antonio. I know who I'd rather have.
Dawson or Lukabe, has to be Dawson after the season he has had.

For me the most important player last night was Diop. Booked after 20 minutes. Then got better and better. If he had made errors and or got another yellow it would of been us crying and what if.
Ridiculed by many and not played well this season.
Could this be the making of him ? A confidence player for sure. Let's hope he can grow into the player many thought he would become when first signed.
Ironic really that Dawson and Diop were only getting games in the EL to save Ogbonna and Zouma for the PL.
Now they will both be in the semi and hopefully the Final.

RichyP - if you have one yellow (like Rice) it is wiped but if you picked up two up to the QF stage you miss the next game.

At the risk of tempting fate , Frankfurt are in a similar league position as Lyon in their respective leagues .
A team 5th , 6th or even 7th in the Premier league should have too much for them , assuming most first choice players are avail .
Let’s go at them from the start and take the tension out of the second leg .
